- Eye exercises
Look away from the computer. Focus your gaze on an object farther away, such as a tree or a picture. Silently count to 30. If your eyes wander, gently bring them back. Afterwards blink a couple of times.
- Acupressure to relieve headaches
Close your eyes. Place your thumb and index finger to the right and left of the base of your nose and press as firmly as is comfortable for you. Press two fingers on the temples and release the pressure when it becomes uncomfortable.
- Breathing exercise
Stand or sit in an upright position next to an open window. Now inhale deeply, using your stomach to draw the air into your lungs. Hold the breath a few moments. Then slowly exhale completely. Repeat this for several minutes.
- Exercises for muscle relaxation
Simultaneously tense as many muscle groups as possible: shoulders, legs, buttocks, arms, face. Hold the tension a while (as you continue to breathe). Release the tension, breathe deeply, and enjoy the relaxation.
- Mental training for mental relaxation
Rest your mind for five minutes: close your eyes and think about a walk on the beach. Immerse yourself in this fantasy. Feel the warm sand, hear the sounds of the sea, taste the salty air.
- A healthy snack
A banana delivers quick energy, but other fruits, yoghurt, or a cool glass of buttermilk make for a healthy refreshment as well. Also take care to maintain an adequate daily fluid intake (ca. 2 litres).
- A relaxed conversation with friends
Have a chat with a nice colleague during a break: about last weekend, the upcoming vacation, etc. Or meet a long-standing friend in the evening and exchange stories about old times.
- Small personal success
Break your day down into small and achievable goals. For example: "By noon I want to have finished the project", "By this evening I will have finally cleaned up my desk." Reward yourself with a midday stroll, a dessert, a trip to the movies.
- Doing a good turn
Bring home flowers to your spouse or partner! Pay your colleague a compliment, give out a box of cookies, or offer a child a balloon. You will see: giving pleasure to others feels good!
- Taking a short walk outside
Even when there’s a lot to do (especially then!), you should take a short walk. Even if it’s just for ten minutes: you get some exercise, breathe fresh air, your eyes get a chance to look at something else, and you think about other things.
